Friday, 12th October: Kingsway Tyres, Downtown Branch and Saturday, 13th October: Village Market, 3rd Level. From 10am both days.

Who can donate:  Every healthy individual with no known infection /disease can donate blood. It should still be done after having screened yourself. The donor should be in good health and should be feeling well on the day they donate. He/she should weigh at least 110 lbs. (50 kg) or more, not on any prescribed medication that may affect the donor or recipient. There should be a gap of at least 56 days between donations.

What to expect:

  • The whole process is extremely quick and easy – and including registration and health checks, takes roughly half an hour. In fact, it’s so effortless it won’t make an impact on your life. But you’ll be a hero to us.
  • We ask that you have something to eat or drink before you attend the session
  • Simply turn up, register at reception and we’ll ask you to fill out a short health questionnaire
  • If you’ve never donated blood before, or haven’t donated in the last two years, you’ll have a personal and confidential discussion with one of the Blood Transfusion Services (BTS) staff.
  • We’ll then make sure your iron levels are high enough to donate by giving you a short finger – prick test.
  • Then you’ll move to a donating bed, to proceed with your donation which will take between 4 and 11 minutes. Your donation will then be taken away for testing. After a short rest we will provide refreshments and a big thank you.

    Why should you donate:

  • Safe blood saves lives.
  • Blood is commonly used for women with complications of pregnancy, such as ectopic pregnancies and haemorrhage before or during childbirth, children with severe anaemia often resulting from malaria or malnutrition, accident victims and surgical and cancer patients.
  • There is a constant need for regular supply of blood because blood can be stored only for a limited period of time before use, regular blood donation by a sufficient number of healthy people is needed to ensure that blood will always be available wherever and whatever it is needed.
  • Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person – the gift of life. A decision to donate your blood can save the life of one or even several people.

Confidentiality is a very vital part of a professional service. Information by a donor is treated with maximum confidentiality. Personal information is given to the blood service technicians to ensure the safety of the blood supply. Under no circumstances is the confidentiality broken.
