As many of you may know we have been working on a new registration system for British Nationals in Kenya. We are pleased to announce that the new system, which makes use of the mobile phone, is now live and working! We think the new system which we have developed in Kenya is simple and easy to use and will help us to better communicate with British Nationals and their families in a crisis. We hope that as many people as possible will be encouraged to register with us and this is where we need your help. We would be very grateful if you could actively promote this new system with friends, family and other contacts. We also think that as it is very easy to use the message on how to register can also be quickly passed on verbally or by SMS. We appreciate that there may be many questions, so our website has a full question and answer section – including info on the future of LOCATE, but if you do have any additional questions please feel free to contact us.   So in summary to register send the word REGISTRATION to +44 7537409010.

You will receive an SMS message back. Follow the prompts on screen and enter the required data exactly as indicated. Please be patient as the text messages will get through! You will be asked for your name, date of birth and if you are a long term resident (greater than 4 weeks) or short term visitor (less than 4 weeks).Your mobile phone number is automatically captured by the system. If you are a long term resident you will be asked to provide an approximate location and every 6 months you will get a SMS message asking if you are still in Kenya. If you are a short term visitor we will be in touch after 4 weeks to see if you are still here. If you reply no, or do not make the 7 day deadline, your details will be deleted. It’s that simple and quick! You will not be charged any additional fee for this service other than the standard cost of your SMS messages. It is important to us that you feel confident we will protect your personal data and that you fully understand who will see it and why. We provide details on the terms and conditions of use for the new SMS registration service, including how we protect your personal data which can be found on our website If you would like more information please feel free to either contact us by phone, email or in person at the British High Commission. Please pass this on to your friends and contacts!
