Word of Mouth restaurant review – Makutano at Utamaduni, Langata

Makutano is set in a really beautiful garden in Langata, filled with a stunning variety of plants and birds. There are a number of tables outside under umbrellas and also some under a covered verandah. The menu, although quite simple does cater for most people’s tastes and is always beautifully presented, fresh and hot. The Zanzibar fish soup is the best I have tasted in Nairobi and the Sunday curries are also fantastic. The service is quick and friendly and the food reasonably priced. The main courses range from Ksh 600 to Ksh 1600. The wine list is small but what is available is very drinkable.

There is a small playground but it is metal and not under-cover therefore impractical. The restaurant shares it’s plot with a great gift shop so although this is fine if you want to shop while you make up your mind what you would like to eat for lunch it can get quite bust with tourists.

I think this is a cracking little restaurant and well worth a visit…or two!!!
