Word of Mouth Restaurant Review – Phoenician Sushi Bar at The Junction

The relatively newly opened Phoenician at the Junction has a lovely ambiance with tasteful Moroccan style decor, subtle lighting and plenty of jikos for warmth in the evenings.

The menu is impressive – in fact so impressive (read large) that it is virtually impossible to choose! The slant is Japanese/Fusion, with a choice of salads, sashimi, numerous vegetarian and non-vegetarian sushi options, teriyaki and other hot main courses. Needless to say, being 3 ladies and perpetually on a diet, we didn’t sample the desserts!

The service at the Phoenician is superb. Quick and friendly; our waitress Josephine was lovely and couldn’t do enough to keep us happy. The wine list we found a bit limited, but managed to enjoy a bottle of very cold KWV Sauvignon Blanc none-the –less.  Nicely presented in a pretty silver bucket, and reasonably priced.

Our collective opinion on the food was: “good”. Not amazing, not poor, but good. The avocado-soyae salad was delicious, but the avocado slightly over-ripe. The sushi was very tasty but the rice definitely over-cooked. The food is also relatively pricey. However, for the ambiance, friendly service, cold wine and “good” food, the Word of Mouth team will be back!
